Data brokers make money by building a profile of you — name, current and past addresses, phone numbers, relatives, even property records — and selling access to it. Most of the information technically comes from public records. The problem isn't any single detail; it's that these sites stitch it all together into one searchable page, which is exactly what makes phishing calls, impersonation scams, and doxxing easier to pull off.
The good news: every major people-search site offers a free opt-out. It's just tedious, because each one has its own process. This guide walks through seven of the biggest — Whitepages, Spokeo, BeenVerified, Intelius (which also clears TruthFinder, InstantCheckmate, USSearch, and PeopleFinder in one pass), FastPeopleSearch, Radaris, and MyLife — so you can knock them out in one sitting.
01
Whitepages
Verification: phone call · Time: ~15 min · Processing: up to 72 hrs
- Search your name (add city/state) at whitepages.com and open the listing that's actually you — check age range and relatives before proceeding.
- Copy the full profile URL from the address bar.
- Go to whitepages.com/privacy/consumer-rights (or the homepage footer link "Do Not Sell My Personal Information") and paste the URL.
- Confirm the listing is yours, click Remove Me, and pick a reason from the dropdown.
- Enter a phone number you can answer, check the ownership box, and start the verification call. Enter the code it gives you.
- Recheck in about 72 hours. If it's still up, contact Whitepages support with your submission date and URL.
02
Spokeo
Verification: email link · Time: ~10 min · Processing: 24–72 hrs
- Search your name, phone, or email at spokeo.com and open the matching profile.
- Copy the full URL from the address bar.
- Go to spokeo.com/optout, paste the URL, enter an email address, and complete the CAPTCHA.
- Open the confirmation email and click the verification link — nothing is removed until you do.
- Recheck in 24–72 hours. New listings can appear later, so a repeat search every so often is worthwhile.
03
BeenVerified
Verification: email link · Time: ~10 min · Processing: 24–72 hrs
- Go to beenverified.com, scroll to the footer, and click "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" — not the regular search bar.
- Search your name and state, then compare age, city, and relatives carefully — common names return several near-matches.
- Click Proceed to Opt Out on the right listing, enter an email, and complete the CAPTCHA. No account needed.
- Open the email and click Verify Opt-Out.
- If more than one profile shows up (old address, maiden name), repeat the process for each — removals aren't identity-wide.
- Recheck after a few days. If a listing sticks around, email support@beenverified.com or call (888) 579-5910.
04
Intelius & the PeopleConnect network
Verification: email + phone/email code · Time: ~15 min · Processing: 48–72 hrs
- Go to intelius.com, scroll to the footer, and click "Exercise My Data Privacy Rights."
- Click View Public Data Tools, then Manage My Suppression Rules — this opens the shared PeopleConnect Suppression Center.
- Enter an email you control, agree to the terms, and click the verification link sent to your inbox (it expires in 15 minutes).
- Enter your date of birth and legal name, then pick your profile from the matching records — check age, cities, and relatives.
- Choose a partially-hidden email or phone shown on screen, request a code, and enter it.
- Find your record and set its visibility to Suppressed, then save.
- Recheck after 48–72 hours. One suppression here also clears TruthFinder, InstantCheckmate, and USSearch — and PeopleFinder, which redirects to Intelius.
One request, four sites cleared. This is the highest-leverage opt-out on the list — do this one even if you skip the rest.
05
FastPeopleSearch
Verification: email link · Time: ~5 min · Processing: ~3 days
- Go directly to fastpeoplesearch.com/optout — there's no self-search here, the form locates your record for you.
- Enter your name and a real email you check, complete the CAPTCHA, and submit.
- Click the link in the email that arrives, which opens the actual removal form.
- Fill in the requested details and submit — you'll get an on-screen and email confirmation.
Expect to redo this one. FastPeopleSearch rebuilds from public records frequently — a home sale or address change can bring your listing back within weeks.
06
Radaris
Verification: email link · Time: ~15 min · Processing: 24–48 hrs
- Search your name, city, and state at radaris.com and click View Profile on the correct listing.
- Copy the full profile URL.
- Scroll to the bottom of any Radaris page and click Do Not Sell My Info.
- Click through the intro and age-verification pages, then paste your URL along with your name, city, and state.
- Click Start Removing, continue through a few more confirmation screens, then enter your email and complete the CAPTCHA.
- Click the link in the confirmation email to finalize.
Keep your confirmation email. Radaris has a documented pattern of listings resurfacing or requests getting ignored. Set a reminder to check back in about 90 days.
07
MyLife
Verification: phone call (recommended) · Time: 15–30 min · Processing: 7–15 days
- MyLife's web form is unreliable — call 1-888-704-1900 directly. Have your profile URL ready if you can find it on mylife.com first.
- Tell the rep you want your free public listing removed. They may pitch a paid subscription — you can decline and the removal still proceeds.
- If you'd rather not call, email membersupport@mylife.com with your name, profile URL, and a clear removal request — expect a slower turnaround.
- Ignore the "Reputation Score" on your listing — it's a marketing metric, not a background check (the FTC fined MyLife over it in 2020).
- MyLife listings tend to reappear on a 6–12 month cycle. Set a calendar reminder rather than checking right away.
Worth Knowing
- This only removes the broker's listing, not the original record. Property records, court files, and voter rolls stay put — opting out removes the easy, consolidated access point.
- Google can lag behind. An old snippet can linger in search results after a listing is gone. Google's "Results about you" tool (myactivity.google.com/results-about-you) can help clear those.
- Nothing here is permanent. New public records, a move, or a data refresh can bring a listing back. Treat this as a task to repeat every few months.
- This list isn't exhaustive. TruePeopleSearch, USPhoneBook, Nuwber, PeopleLooker, and CheckPeople are common next targets.
- Paid services exist if this gets tedious. DeleteMe or Incogni automate opt-outs across hundreds of brokers and re-file when listings reappear.
